Today's Journal

Woke up this morning with little motivation and feeling rather tired...the thought of a tough run ahead of me this morning didn't help. One foot at a time I got out of bed...got dressed and set off for my run. I felt a little hungry before the run...only had a mouthful of sports drink.

Once I was out and moving I pepped up a little.

The course for this morning was over my 'favourite' hills course. GREAT!

The warm up stats:

The main set stats:

Reflections on the Run:

  • The initial warmup was tough in itself in that there is a lot of hill runnuing, but its a course I am use too and know what to expect and how to handle it and it is only a warm up.
  • The main set was over undulating terrain and in some parts it was also flat.
  • This was tough on the legs..whether it was flat or hilly the focus was to keep that heart rate between 155bpm and 165bpm.
  • For the 4 of the 5 reps I was able to maintain this. The middle rep where the heart rate dropped was during a downhill section of the course. The pace was still good.
  • The 4th rep was through the hills and the legs were struggling..but we got through it. My max heart rate for this run was reached during this section of the run. (171bpm)
  • At this point in the run the sun was out and the humidity was rising.
  • I was relatively happy with the run....but found it tough.
  • During the warm down I did a set of 5 x 5m strides.
  • When I got home a good 15min stretch...it felt soooo good.
  • Was really hungry by the end of the run.

PM Session: Squad Swim

Swim Reflections:

  • Lacking in motivation.
  • The legs were about 5m behind my body. They were feeling rather fatigued and hence struggled to really have a strong kick throughout the session tonight....not that I have strong kick anyway.
  • I am getting frustrated with my swimming....I don't seem to be improving...it takes me a long time 15min to get into the session and then it seems a bit of a chore...arrrrrgh!!!!
  • Being in the fast lane is probably on source of frustration....a perception though...I think I need to change my mind set in that I DON'T have to keep up with the stronger swimmers...we all have different goals and swim at different paces to achieve those goals.
  • The reassurance from Mark at the end of the session help in allaying these thoughts.
