Today's Journal |
hmmmmmmmmmmm........DAY 1............................
Woke up to find that the heaven were opening up with some consistent showers which really was more like rain. But as they say...the show must go on. We packed up the cars and drove the 20minutes up to Coolum. Arriving at Coolum we were greeted by some other familiar faces from the squad and the rain....hmmmmmm. We weren't able to check in this early so we parked down the bottom of the camp and prepared down there. Everyone was prepared and then the first group was off. This was the group I was in and we were obviously going to go the furtherest and hardest. We went with a friend of Mark's, Robbie who has done a number of Ironman Triathlons including Hawaii. There was 5 of us for this ride me, Paul, Michael and Brad...really great group to ride with!
The stats of the ride were:
Reflection from the ride:
- It was a great to have yellow tinted glasses from the ride as it helped in keeping a lot of the road grime out of the eyes.
- In the rain I was a little cautious until I got a use to the conditions as I really hadn't riden in consistent rain before....another good conditioning exercise for Port.
- Throughout the ride the goals was to keep the cadence between 90 and 100rpm. This was a good focus to have and I think I did quite well in achieving the goal.
- A great route some similarities to aspects of the Port course.
- Throughout the ride I focussed on keeping relaxed whilst in the aero position. Keeping the hands and forearms relaxed...not gripping the aerobars too tight which I have a habit of doing.
Lunch Session: Headed off to the Coolum pool for a swim in the pool. (25m) Was in a good frame of mind. Legs were relatively fatigued but not too bad and I thought that I could get through the session without a problem. I was also thinking that this is only day 1 of camp and there are 2 more days to come....
At times I struggled in the pool....cramps...just tired legs...I just couldn't get them going.
Reflections on the swim:
- Becoming a little frustrated with my swimming things don't seem to be improving...in fact I feels things are not going anywhere.....I maybe wrong....lets hope so.
- Is the 'arch enemy at work'?
