It was a run...if you could call it that!

After much deliberation with myself this morning I ended up going for the trail run with the squad.
It was will I, or won't I...yes...or no...maybe...in the end I got my my butt out of the house and to the top of cootha.
It was a cool morning and the may of the trails where closed around the mountain but we pushed on. I ended up in Group 2. It just was happening for me, the flu...coughing and splattering I made it round for 11km in just under 1hr 20min.
There was a bit of thinking there too to try and sweat the rest of the flu out...not sure that was a good theory...now I just can't stop coughing...oh well...that's life.

Friday.....what to do?

Its Friday, and so far this week not much training has been done at all. In fact NONE. I have a good dose of the flu and have not tried to train at all. Believing it be best to give it a chance to pass. However, it has improved but there is still a bit of a pesky cough and blocked nose still hanging around.

The question is what to do? Do I run tomorrow? I have the Tour next week end and really need some for of fitness behind me, but on the other hand am I going to make it worse. Decisions...decisions. The option might be to run in group 2 tomorrow and take it easy. That sounds like a reasonable plan and one I think I can cope with.

Flu, still a thorn in my side...

Wednesday and Today still saw no training, the flu has still got a reasonable grasp on the body.

This evening I watched the IM DVD I purchased, found this rather motivating and might have been the kick in the butt I needed to get me going.

Race Schedule for the 2009-2010

Finally I have decided on the events for the 2009 -2010 season. Its a big season with a particular challenge ahead. 2 IM's within 3 weeks.

Some aspects of the race schedule are yet to be finialised but this is a proposed version

Runs for Friday

Many people finish their week with a social drink, others go out with friends to dinner and others shop, but I find that a solid 13k run does the trick.

The run was across my regular hill course, took a solid 48min. You may say that I need my head read, but I enjoy the challenge of that an inclince of the earth's surface throws up. Get you to really focus on your form and rythmn. I number of aspects I find good to focus on when running the hills includes:
  • The arms should be used as levers to assist in 'pumping' the legs. The more you 'work' the arms, you will find that the legs will work in proportion.
  • Look at turning the legs over at a slightly higher cadence, the arms will help with this.
  • Try and keep relaxed, try not to clinch the fists, keep the hands loose and relaxed.
  • Smile, keep the face relaxed. Smiling does a great job of this. I believe that this is why Chrissie Wellington does so well, she's always smiling.

Winter water treat.....

This evening, was a trip back to the pool. To prelude this blog entry, I'd like to say that I was looking for an excuse not to go to swimming, however, it wasn't forth coming. The mind just wasn't in the mood for the H2O, but the body was reasonable keen, but not long after we had started the session the mind had eventually persuaded the body.

The triceps were still sore from Monday's night core session and it was just a struggle to get through the session, I stuck with it and made it, but it wasn't pretty.

It's still raining....

Today was the most amount of rain we have had in 17 years and there is water everywhere. In fact its to a point where a boat could be the preferred method of transport around the streets. Hence, there was no training today.

I am still formulating a plan for the next season. At this stage I am doing the Tour de Tri 24hr in a couple of weeks and then, mid August I am doing the Capricorn HIM in Yeppoon. This is the first time I have competed in this event. Looking forward to it really.

As yet my feet have not met the scales and I'm not in a hurry for this to happen either.

This week end is the end of season awards night and it should be a 'hoot' looking forward to it greatly.

The Heavens OPEN

Today I had some admirable plans, running this morning and swimming this evening.

Then the rain swept in overnight and this put the end to all this. Well running was definately a no goer but there was still hope for the swim session but as the afternoon progressed, it wasn't looking good. In the end there was a couple issues at work that prevented me from getting away from work on time and that was the end of that!

After last night's session, the triceps are VERY sore, to the point that I think swimming would have been a very painful experience. Welcome back to Core Strength!!!!

Made a successful come back tonight

Tonight was a return to core strength for the first time in about 8 weeks. Initially I was a little tentative in getting back into the core strength. I must say it isn't one of 'most' favourite training session. In fact it is an area that can be improved...it is an area that is always sacrificed when things get a little tough.

Tomorrow we will see how I feel. The triceps maybe a little sore I would think.

Have to start somewhere.

Moving forward.....

May 1, 2009........this is the beginning of the next phase of my 2009/2010 campaign.

I am determined not to fall into the hole that I found myself in last season and did not get back into 'any' training for a number of months.

Initially, the training will be light and I am focussed on the fun and social aspect of the sport. Go back to my triathlon roots, to enjoy a sport I have come to love and cherish (that's a bit soppy)

This weekend I am looking to establish my goals for the next season.

My initial thoughts are these:
  • IM Western Australia at the end of the year
  • Australian HIM series
  • Marathon somewhere there.
  • Trail running

These are just brainstormed ideas here at the moment and over the coming day I am looking at finialising these.
